Blumarine

Founded by Anna Molinari and her husband Gianpaolo Tarabini in Carpi, Blumarine became the “it-brand” of the 1990s. Back in 1977 the couple created the brand inspired by the ocean surrounding their hometown Capri.
In the beginning of Blumarine Helmut Newtown shot their Ad campaigns and became a huge part of creating their signature look.
Their feminine, romantic vibe is best captured in their symbol, the rose. Molinari featured it in almost every collection and defined it by the connection between breathtaking beauty and pain.
My favorite collection by Molinari is the 2004 spring/summer ready-to-wear collection. Mayor ballet-core is what we would call it nowadays. Consisting of champagne colors and pastels, micro mini shorts with frills, bows and ribbons as well as the perfect lingerie dresses.
In my eyes Molinari did not only create a fashion collection, but furthermore a lifestyle for the women of the time. She provided the perfect balance between elegant and sexy, while also serving powerful.
From 2019 until recently, 24-year-old Nicola Brognano represents this vision as their creative director. The Designer graduated from Instituto Marangoni Milan and won the Vouge Italia contest in 2016. He visualizes the romantic sexiness of all women, by providing provocative and seductive looks.
My favorite collection from Brognano is the 2022 Autumn/winter ready-to-wear collection. Models were sent down the runway in black latex, over knee stockings, purple silk and miniskirts.
So, what is Blumarine really known for?
Knitted sweaters, the rose, their own leo print- called "Animalier" and mink fur trim on sweaters. My favorite piece will always be the Blumarine dress. For me all Blumarine dresses give of intense mermaid goddess. They sometimes feature asymmetry in their skirts and a perfect balance between flowy and skintight. The dress hugs the body the best angles and you instantly become a princess.
